The head of the Italian National Amateur League, Felice Belloli, has been accused of being sexist and prejudiced towards women’s football.

Belloli replaced Carlo Tavecchio, now President of the Italian Football Federation [FIGC], in November of last year and is now in hot water after allegations of a sexist slur back in March.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Belloli had called female footballers ‘lesbians’ during a meeting to raise funds for women’s football on the March 5.

“That’s enough, we can not always talk about giving money away to a handful of lesbians,” he allegedly said at the end of the meeting.

Belloli, however, had rigorously denied these comments when interviewed by Ansa.

“It cannot be proved that these words are mine. A [false] report can be written by anyone. You have to prove that I’ve said those things and I repeat, I deny it.”

Belloli is currently under investigation by prosecutors from the FIGC.
