Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini chose to look on the positives after his team played their final Serie A match.

The Rossoblu finished the campaign in 18th place and now face life in Serie B for the first time in 11 years, however the Sardinians managed to bid farewell to Italy’s top flight in style with a thrilling 4-3 win over Udinese at home.

Yet despite the win, the home side were jeered on and off the pitch, an action which Giulini defends.

“We have been relegated so you can’t expect a much different atmosphere,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“There is great disappointment [within the club].

“But we will do everything to build a team that can do well. We have a good base from which to start, we just need to come out and do better in Serie B [than this season].

As for who will coach the team come next season, Giulini refused to make conclusive decisions.

“I don’t think it’s the right time to start talking about this,” The Italian said.

“[Gianluca] Festa [coach of Cagliari] has finished the season very well, and has done a great job with all his staff.

“So first of all I want to thank him. Then next week we will begin to make appropriate assessments on the staff.

Concluding, the president decided to give a few kind words of departing captain Daniele Conti, who has been at the club for 16 years.

“There are less and less players like Conti nowadays, and this club has been very lucky to have him,” Giulini said.

“I thank him on behalf of everyone at the club, including Massimo Cellino [former Cagliari owner].

“Now I hope that players like [Nicola] Murru and Nicolo Barella can look up to him, as they are the future of this club.”
