Chievo drew 1-1 with Atalanta on Sunday afternoon in Serie A at the Stadio Bentegodi.

Alejandro Gomez gave the visitors the lead early in the second half before Sergio Pellissier equalised in the dying moments.

Both sides started quite positively and won corners early on that were cleared with relative ease.

Ezequiel Schelotto cut inside onto his left foot and fired a shot from distance but it was too central to trouble Marco Sportiello in the Atalanta goal.

Maxi Moralez looked lively early on for the Dea when in possession but lacked an end product at times.

Schelotto let fly with another long-range effort in the 15th minute which bounced awkwardly in front of Sportiello but the Atalanta ‘keeper did well to catch the ball.

Atalanta almost opened the scoring in the 30th minute after a mazy run from Alejandro Gomez led to a shot from inside the area that hit the bar.

The Nerazzurri came close again in the 36th minute after Albano Biazzarri spilled a cross but Richmond Boakye’s follow-up effort was deflected away for a corner kick.

The visitors had another chance in the 43rd minute when Maxi Moralez was played in by a clever through-ball but his shot struck the body of Bizzarri and the sides went into the break with the game goalless.

Atalanta opened the scoring three minutes after the restart when Ervin Zukanovic lost the ball in defence to Alejandro Gomez who carried the ball into the area and blasted a low effort past Bizzarri at the near post.

The Dea had a good chance in the 52nd minute after Moralez was left unmarked inside the area but his first touch was heavy and it allowed Bizzarri to claim possession.

Chievo’s Alberto Paloschi came close to levelling after 57 minutes thanks to an impressive turn and shot but Sportiello got down well to save.

The Flying Donkeys worked the ball into the area well after an hour but Riccardo Meggiorini was tackled by Yohan Beanlouane as he attempted to pull the trigger and no penalty was awarded despite protests from Rolando Maran and his bench.

The Gialloblu continued to press after going behind but struggled to create clear-cut chances despite some attractive build-up play.

The game settled into a slow rhythm with 20 minutes left as Chievo tried patiently to find a goal without really testing the Atalanta defence.

Ruben Botta stung the palms of Sportiello in the 79th minute and won a corner but the Atalanta goalkeeper was able to claim the ball and relieve the pressure.

The Flying Donkeys equalised in the 87th minute via a scrappy Sergio Pellissier goal after the ball rebounded to the veteran striker inside the six yard box following a corner-kick and he was able to get down to score with a strange sort of low diving header.

Chievo continued to press for a winner but weren’t able to find one and their final home game of the season finished as a draw.
