Ahead of a tough trip to Napoli on Monday, Cesena coach Domenico Di Carlo has stated that his side are still united as a team despite losing their Serie A status.

The Cavallucci Marini were relegated from the Italian top flight last week following a 3-2 loss to Sassuolo, but the former Livorno man has reiterated that the team’s unity will provide a strong base for Serie B next season.

“It was a tough week after being relegated to Serie B, but certainly Cesena deserved more,” Di Carlo stated.

“When I took control of Cesena in December, my goal was to help the club avoid relegation, but I didn’t quite achieve my target.

“At the moment, we should think of the remaining three games, and aim to get good results.

“The group is still united, which will be the base for a strong foundation in Serie B next season.

“I thank the fans for backing us even in the tough stages. The applause after the loss last week meant a lot.”

Di Carlo also had some praise for opponents Napoli.

“We are about to face one of the strongest teams in Italy tomorrow,” he said.

“They didn’t deserve the elimination from the Europa League [semi-finals against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk] last week.

“In terms of scoring chances, Napoli are the best team in Italy, but I expect a strong performance from Cesena at the Stadio San Paolo.”
