The 29-year-old German international has largely flattered to deceive during his time in Florence since making the move from Bayern Munich in 2013, and the club are ready to cut their losses.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the club have instructed coach Vincenzo Montella to play him up until the end of the season, in the hope that he can grab a few goals so he can fetch around €10 million in the close season.

The alternative plan would be to offer him to Roma with a proposition of a loan swap with Mattia Destro, who looks set to return to the club after an unsuccessful loan stint of his own at AC Milan in the second half of the season.

Gomez has netted four goals in 20 league appearances this term.
