Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani could be set to join Sebastian Giovinco at Major League Soccer side Toronto FC as a free agent this summer.

The Italian international will be available after his contract expires at the end of the season and is believed to have decided against a renewal with the Tuscan side.

Sky Sport Italia claims that the 30-year-old has become disillusioned by repeated delays when negotiating a new deal with the Viola and will now leave in the summer.

Aquilani is also reported to have agreed a new contract in principal with Fiorentina earlier this season, but has since been frustrated by a lack of regular playing time.

A prospective move to the Eastern Conference side could also be helped by the fact that Andrea D’Amico, who handles the affairs of Giovinco, also represents the midfielder.

Aquilani has also been linked with a return to Roma, where he progressed through the youth system before leaving for Liverpool in 2009.
