On-loan Guangzhou Evergrande striker Alberto Gilardino is expected to pen a permanent contract shortly to remain in Serie A with Fiorentina.

The 32-year-old returned for a second spell with the Viola in January on a temporary deal after less than six months playing in the Chinese Super League and has settled well.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Florence-based outfit will pay the buy-out clause of around €1.5 million to complete a transfer that will keep Gilardino at the club for the next two years.

Following a slow start back in Italian football, the former AC Milan and Genoa star has notched four goals in his last six league appearances in order to prove his worth for Vincenzo Montella’s team.

Biella-born Gilardino has also featured in the colours of Piacenza, Hellas Verona, Parma and Bologna during a well-travelled career, as well as claiming over a half-century of caps for his country.
