Genoa have been omitted from a list of clubs that have been awarded a UEFA licence for the 2015-16 season released by the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC).

The Grifone failed in an appeal against playing in European competition next season after missing a paperwork deadline as well as failing to name a suitable stadium with the Stadio Luigi Ferraris needing redevelopment work to meet standards.

The FIGC announced in a statement that 13 Serie A sides have been granted a licence to be eligible for Europe after a meeting of the first and secondary UEFA licensing board.

The clubs granted a UEFA licence are Atalanta, Fiorentina, Hellas Verona, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, AC Milan, Napoli, Roma, Sampdoria, Sassuolo, Torino and Udinese.

In addition to relegated Parma, Cagliari and Cesena, Chievo, Empoli and Palermo have all also been refused a licence.

This means that seventh place in Serie A could now offer entry to the Europa League, with Genoa currently occupying sixth with two rounds remaining.

City rivals Sampdoria were awarded a licence after announcing their intention to play at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium should they qualify for European competition.
