Inter forward Lukas Podolski will leave Serie A when his loan ends in June, with a resumption of his career in English football most likely.
The German international is currently contracted to Arsenal, but could be surplus to requirements on his return to the Gunners’ squad having struggled for game-time prior to a temporary switch to Italy.
According to reports in the Sun newspaper, there is strong interest in his services from north-east Premier League duo Sunderland and Newcastle United, but it still remains unclear whether Podolski has any realistic hope of forcing his way back into Arsene Wenger’s plans in north London.
It’s been a difficult stay at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for the 29-year-old since joining up with the Nerazzurri in January, while managing only eight league starts and one goal so far.
