Italy coach Antonio Conte is facing more allegations linking him with the 2011 Calcioscommesse scandal.
The 45-year-old was coaching Serie B side Siena at the time and with new evidence having emerged, the Prosecutor of Cremona looks set to investigate Conte again.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, investigators are analysing a conversation from April 2011 between Atalanta midfielder Cristiano Doni and Ravenna goalkeeping coach Nicola Santoni.
Before Siena’s 2-1 loss to Portogruaro in the 2010-11 season, Doni asked Santoni, “What are you doing with a wig?” Investigators want to know if that comment is a reference to Conte.
The Azzurri coach won’t be investigated for the Siena v Portogruaro match but he will be investigated for sporting fraud for Novara 2-2 Siena and Albinoleffe 1-0 Siena from the same season.
Conte’s lawyer Leonardo Cammarata wants to have the court case closed, a decision which does not please the Prosecutor of Cremona.
“Antonio never asked for any special treatment. If it were to be the archiving [of the case], for which we believe we are at the end of our tether, he has rights like all citizens and not as a coach to a reasonable duration of the process and for this we will ask the court immediately.” Cammarata said to ANSA.
