Atalanta midfielder Giulio Migliaccio has insisted that his side are now safe in Serie A – although they are not mathematically assured of their survival.

With three games to play, they sit eight points above 18th placed Cagliari who would have to win all of their last three games and hope that La Dea pick up no more points.

And Migliaccio does not foresee such a scenario, telling Sky Sport Italia after their 3-2 win away to Palermo: “I think that the talk of survival can now be closed. There are three games to go and we are still going to try and take as many points as possible.

“There was a change of coach from us after so many years with [Stefano] Colantuono but we are pleased to have made sure of survival, now that it is almost here. The determination should always be there – we should be going to war when we step out onto the field.”

He did spare a thought for the side who they had beaten though where he revealed that he enjoyed some of the best years of his career.

“I will always be grateful to Palermo where I enjoyed five fantastic years and loved my time and I thought that I managed to give so much to them.”
