Sergio Ramos says Real Madrid thought they were already through after taking the lead against Juventus as the side’s drew 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to send the Bianconeri through to the Champions League final.

Real Madrid took the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty, and a 1-0 win would have been sufficient to send the current holders of the competition through to face bitter rivals Barcelona.

However Álvaro Morata’s equaliser, which involved some poor goalkeeping from Iker Casillas, meant that it will be the Old Lady, courtesy of a 3-2 victory on aggregate,  who will now take on the Blaugrana in Berlin.

“After our goal we thought that it was done,” the Spanish defender told Marca.

“Juventus deserved their victory and rightly progressed, we did not close the game out and we have paid for this mistake.”

The Champions League final will be played on June 6 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
