Brescia comfortably beat Catania 4-2 at the Stadio Rigamonti on Saturday afternoon in Serie B.

The Leonessa raced into a 2-0 lead inside half an hour thanks to goals from Alessio Sestu and Valerio De Cesare. Alessandro Rosina pulled one back with twenty minutes left for the away side.

Quick-fire goals from Victor Da Silva and Ahmad Benali then put Brescia 4-1 up. Catania got a consolation goal in injury time through Lucas Castro.

Sestu nearly put the hosts in front earlier than he did when he curled a looping an effort from range over the helpless Jean-Francois Gillet, but it only crashed off the bar.

He did put them in front moments later though as he tapped in an open goal from a Racine Coly cross.

Their lead was doubled soon after as De Cesare got to a loose ball inside the six yard box and volleyed into the top corner.

In the second half, the Elefanti got one back as Daniele Sciaudone squared the ball to Rosina to knock it in.

Almost immediately, the home side restored their two goal advantage as Victor Da Silva was on the line to tap in a header put across goal.

Five minutes later, Brescia increased their lead to 4-1. Benali looped a header over Gillet who had previously saved an effort from Da Silva.

In injury time Castro ghosted into the box to guide the ball past Michele Arcari who got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

Brescia are now six points from safety with two games left, whilst Catania are left with mid-table mediocrity.

In a game between two play-off hopefuls, Bologna and Avellino, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Avellino took the lead just after the half-hour mark as Alessandro Sbaffo netted. Marcel Buchel grabbed an equaliser for the Rossoblu in the second half.

The hosts could have turned the game on its head, but Robert Acquafresca missed from the spot. Luca Ceccarelli was then sent off at the death.

Frosinone could have increased their lead in second spot but they were denied the three points by Cittadella.

Danilo Soddimo put the Ciociari ahead in the first half, but ten minutes from time youth product Giulio Bizzotto levelled for Citta.

In another game between two more play-off candidates, nine man Perugia grabbed a 2-2 draw away at Pescara.

It was 0-0 at the break, but when Perugia captain Gianluca Comotto was dismissed the Delfini raced into a 2-0 lead. Ledian Memushaj converted a penalty and the Federico Melchiorri doubled the lead.

Then, strikes from Matteo Ardemagni and Edoardo Goldaniga put the Grifoni on level terms against the odds. Goldaniga was then shown a straight red with five minutes remaining.

Ternana dropped into the relegation zone following a 1-0 home defeat to Pro Vercelli.

Manuel Scavone put the visitors in front half way through the first half and then to pile more misery on Fere, Marko Dugandzic was dismissed.

In a mid-table clash, Trapani thrashed Modena 3-0 thanks to an own goal from Simone Gozzi and strikes from Denis Curiale and Matteo Scozzarella.

In another game between teams with not much to play for Latina defeated Bari 2-0. Riccardo Brosco scored in the first half and then in the final minutes Nnamdi Oduamadi made it safe for Latina.

There were also two 0-0 draws in Serie B. Champions Carpi were held by Virtus Lanciano and Spezia and Vicenza couldn’t be split either.
