Stramaccioni: Scoreline does not reflect Udinese’s performance

After a 4-1 defeat at home to Sampdoria, Udinese coach Andrea Stramaccioni maintains that his side played better than the scoreline suggests.

Falling behind in the first-half, the Zebrette had a Cyril Thereau goal disallowed before the superior counter-attacking ability of the Blucerchiati came through, with the hosts only registering a goal through a late Antonio Di Natale penalty.

“The result is heavy but it does not reflect what we saw on the pitch,” the ex-Inter coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a strange game, the second goal took away our legs and hurt us mentally.”

Udinese sit 14th in Serie A after the home defeat, leaving them with just one win at the Stadio Friuli in five – a run that Stramaccioni doesn’t believe will cost him his job.

“The president has spoken and taken a clear position, this is the year that we rebuild the squad with a young base and I am considering who can enter the squad and who needs to go and play elsewhere.

“Although, you have to finish the season well and while today’s defeat was exaggerated, Sampdoria deserved to win.”
