AC Milan have cut their ties with club icon Mauro Tassotti after 35 years spanning both a playing and coaching career at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The 55-year-old had become a piece of the furniture at the club – after joining as a player at the age of 20 from Lazio in 1980, he spent 17 seasons with the club where he won almost every domestic and continental honour available.

Upon his retirement, he took over as coach of the youth teams and that was a role he held for four years before, in 2001, accepting Carlo Ancelotti’s offer to assist with coaching of the first team which he has held until this day – as well as caretaker role when the club found themselves between first team coaches.

MilanNews reports that he is unsure of whether or not he will take a year out or evaluate any offers that come his way and he is not the only member of the coaching staff to be told they are no longer needed with the Rossoneri ringing in the changes in a major way.

Fulvio Florin and Nicola Matteucci, brought in from the Primavera by Filippo Inzaghi, with Florin set to depart for an unspecified period of time while the latter will likely return to work with youth team although he could join Inzaghi should ‘Super Pippo’ land a new job.

Gianni Vio, dead-ball specialist, has also been told that he is free to leave the club with the likeliest destination for him looking to be hooking up once more with Walter Zenga at Sampdoria.

There is some doubt over the futures of Andrea Maldera and Daniele Tognaccini with Maldera perhaps being offered a position working within the video analysis section although Tognaccini’s future is much more unclear – with a position in development at Milan Lab a possibility.

The only man who is certain to stay is goalkeeping coach Alfredo Magni who was recruited last summer from Brescia upon the request of Inzaghi and who was made a big impact on everyone at Milanello where his modern and innovative methodology has made him a popular figure among players.
