AC Milan transfer target Mats Hummels looks set to sign a new contract with current club Borussia Dortmund.

The Germany international defender had been earmarked as the man to marshal the Rossoneri’s faltering back line by vice-president Adriano Galliani and coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

According to Gazzetta TV, 26-year-old Hummels is likely to remain in the Bundesliga and renew his contract at the Westfalenstadion to join Marco Reus as one of the club’s top earners.

Hummels was an integral part of Germany’s successful World Cup squad in 2014 and he has won two Bundesliga titles, a DFB-Pokal, and reached the final of the Champions League in 2013.

The BVB center-back has made nearly 200 appearances since joining Dortmund in 2009 and has made 39 appearances for the German national side to date.
