Sampdoria and Italy fullback Lorenzo De Silvestri has been ruled out for six to eight months after suffering a serious knee injury during the Azzurri’s 1-1 Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia.
The 27-year-old was carted off after an awkward block on Mateo Kovacic, and the initial fears of a serious injury were confirmed on Saturday after several tests.
Tests at the Villa Stuart clinic revealed that De Silvestri suffered an injury to both his anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus which is expected to keep him away from the pitch for the next six to eight months.
The fullback will undergo surgery on Sunday in hopes of beginning his rehab process soon after.
