Lorenzo De Silvestri SampdoriaItaly and Sampdoria full-back Lorenzo De Silvestri has spoken with optimism after undergoing an operation.

The 27-year-old ruptured a cruciate ligament during the Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia last Friday, but after surgery has spoken positively about the inevitable rehabilitation which will follow.

“After surgery, which was perfectly executed by Professor Mariani, I’m fine,” De Silvestri said to Sky Sport Italia.

“Now I just need to work hard and recover, but I want to thank everyone for the great affection I have received in recent days.”

Early reports suggest that De Silvestri will be sidelined for at least six months following his injury, although he may have to wait until beyond the new year to make a return.

“I’m giving my all to anticipate my return, I started to move the knee to recover better.

“I do not know what it will take for the full rehabilitation, but I’ll be here in the morning and afternoon.

“I will work hard off the pitch and I wish great luck to my teammates for the match against Portugal.”
