Former Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic has completed a return to the Serie A club as part of Roberto Mancini’s backroom staff.

Stankovic’s new appointment as first team club manager will see him working alongside the club’s management team, assisting in relations with first-team squad members both on and off the pitch.

“It is with immense pleasure and joy that I welcome back an Inter legend such as Dejan Stankovic,” read a statement from Nerazzurri managing director Marco Fassone on the club’s official website.

“I am sure that, just as he did so magnificently during his playing career, he will make a decisive contribution to Inter’s success around the world.”

The 36-year-old former Serbia international also expressed delight at the move, following a spell on the coaching staff at Udinese.

“I am honoured to be coming back to Inter,” said Stankovic.

“I am thrilled and excited because I’ve always said these colours will remain on my skin forever. I cried the day I realized I wouldn’t be pulling on the Nerazzurri shirt anymore.

“I’m back here now, with a sense of pride and determination, to do my best for the club in a different role.”

Stankovic made 326 appearances in all competitions during eight-and-a-half years spent at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, while claiming 15 trophies following a 2004 switch from Lazio.
