Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic says he expects to remain at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next season after recent speculation linking the Croatian with a move elsewhere.

The 21-year-old joined the Nerazzurri from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2013, for a reported €15 million but hasn’t always featured in the starting line-up under Roberto Mancini and previous coach Walter Mazzarri.

“I’ve signed a contract until 2019 and I expect to remain at the club until then, but you never know in football,” Kovacic told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’m 100 per cent committed to Inter and want to stay at the club.”

The Croatian is preparing for his country’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy on Friday, which will be played behind closed doors after Vatreni fans caused trouble during their first encounter at the Meazza last November, and the attacking midfielder expects a tough encounter.

“It will be an advantage for Italy, but it’s a situation we can’t do anything about,” he added.

“It would have been a hard game even with a packed stadium.”
