Gaston Ramirez Hull CityLazio are tracking Southampton’s Uruguayan attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez.

The 24-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough season at Bologna whilst coached by current Biancocelesti boss Stefano Pioli before moving to England in 2012 for a reported fee of €16 million.

According to Il Messaggero, the Saints have put the player on the market following his loan spell with relegated Hull City and Pioli is eager to be reunited with Ramirez.

Ramirez has been identified as a suitable addition to the Lazio squad as the club searches for another attacking midfielder to replace the 35-year-old Stefano Mauri.

The Uruguayan’s current contract expires in 2016 and Southampton are reportedly willing to let him leave for around €5m.

The player’s potential wage demands are a potential snag, as is the fact that he would take up an extra non-Eu place in Lazio’s squad although the capital side are hopeful that the player will be tempted by the prospect of a fresh start after struggling to make an impact in England.

The Aquile reportedly attempted to sign Ramirez from Bologna six months before he moved to England and president Claudio Lotitio and sporting director Igli Tare are still thought to be hopeful of doing a deal after previously missing out.

Ramirez made 23 appearances and scored once for Hull during the 2014-15 Premier League season.
