Lazio have stepped up their efforts to sign Dnipro midfielder Yevhen Konoplyanka and hope to add the talented playmaker to their ranks ahead of next season, where a potential Champions League campaign awaits the capital club.

The 25-year-old recently led his side to the final of the Europa League where they eventually lost 3-2 to Sevilla in Warsaw, and produced some fine performances along the way to the showpiece final.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Biancocelesti have made initial contacts with the attacking midfielder’s representatives and his family, with the player available on a free transfer after his contract was allowed to expire without an agreement for a fresh deal being reached.

The winger was close to joining Liverpool in January 2014, after a fee of €16 million was agreed, but the deal fell through after the Warriors of Light president Ihor Kolomoyskyi pulled the plug on the deal.
