Maicon - RomaRoma will decide against terminating Maicon’s contract and will give him a chance to prove his fitness ahead of the new season, provided he follows to a strict training regime.

The Brazilian right-back has struggled with numerous injuries in recent months, missing large chunks of the season and leading to calls for Roma to cut their losses by terminating his contract. The Giallorossi have the opportunity to release Maicon from his contract for a fee of €2m.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the capital club will instead allow the 33-year-old to prove that his injury worries are behind him. Senior physios Darcy Norman and Ed Lippi have devised a strict fitness plan which Maicon will be expected to stick to should he have any future at Roma.

Capped 76 times by Brazil, Maicon joined Roma in 2013 after a disappointing season at Manchester City.
