Marcelo BielsaExperienced coach Marcelo Bielsa is believed to be in negotiations with club Marseille over renewing his contract with the Ligue 1 side, quashing rumours of a move to Serie A.

The Argentinian signed a two year deal when joining Les Phoceens in May 2014, the Cote d’Azur outfit finishing fourth in Ligue 1 having led the league in the early months before a new-year dip in form meant Marseille missed out on Champions League qualification.

Nevertheless, chairman Vincent Labrune is reported by La Provence as having decided to keep Bielsa on at the Stade Velodrome, with a new contract expected to be offered to the 59-year-old in the next few days.

The ex-Atheltic Club coach had been linked with moving to Italy, with Napoli and AC Milan the most likely destinations – although the Partenopei are now expected to replace Rafa Benitez with Sampdoria’s Sinisa Mihajlovic.
