Serbia U21 coach Mladen Dodic has lamented the mistakes which have resulted in his side’s elimination from the European U21 Championship at the group stages after a 2-0 loss to Denmark on Tuesday evening ensured the Balkans finished bottom of Group A.

Serbia had started brightly in the competition with a 1-1 draw against Germany in their opening game. However, a comprehensive 4-0 thrashing to hosts Czech Republic was followed by a 2-0 defeat to the Danes courtesy of goals from Rasmus Falk and Viktor Fischer.

“After a good debut match against Germany we lost out by committing too many mistakes in the remaining games,” Dodic explained to the media following the final whistle.

“Against Denmark, however, my team and I do not feel down. We played better than against the Czech Republic, but we made too many mistakes.

“Although I must say that in particular the second goal definitely decided the match.

“It must be said, however, that each team came to this competition with the best squad available to them. However, because of many injuries we had to leave important players at home.”
