Hamburg midfielder Valon Behrami attempted to back away from rumours indicating the Swiss international may be headed back to Napoli where he starred for two seasons.
The 30-year old defensive midfielder was a fan favorite at the San Paolo for his tireless work rate and tough tackling but left for Germany in a €6.5 million deal last August after finding inconsistent playing time under former Napoli coach Rafa Benitez.
“There’s nothing at this time regarding a return to Napoli,” Behrami said in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“I’m coming from a very difficult season but I still have two more years on my contract with Hamburg and in the coming weeks we’ll sit down and determine my future.”
The two-time World Cup veteran did provide a lifeline to the Napoli faithful who are hopeful Behrami can overcome recent injuries to once again patrol the San Paolo midfield.
“If I receive a call from [president Aurelio] De Laurentiis, it’d be hard to say no. I’d be reasoning with my heart but it would be very difficult to refuse Napoli.”
