GarganoThe clock is ticking on Walter Gargano’s time with Napoli with Mexican club Monterrey showing interest in the midfielder as the Uruguayan heads into the final year of his contract.

The 30-year old midfield destroyer’s future is uncertain and the club may look to offload Gargano as the squad is retooled under new coach Maurizio Sarri.

“We’ll come to a decision shortly when we talk with Napoli president [Aurelio De Laurentiis] this week,” Gargano’s agent Pablo Boselli told TuttoNapoli.net.

“By next weekend we’ll have a clearer idea of where we stand but Gargano still feels very much a Napoli player, even though he would be happy to play for Monterrey.”

The Liga MX club have quickly established themselves as a force in the region recently lifting three consecutive CONCACAF Champions League trophies.

Gargano was originally signed from Uruguayan club Danubio in 2007 for €2 million and signed a contract extension in 2010.

After successive year-long loan spells with Inter and Parma, Gargano returned to Napoli last season and played well in stretches despite only appearing in 17 Serie A matches. The midfielder is also married to Napoli captain Marek Hamsik’s sister and the pair raise their two sons in the city.
