alessio romagnoli sampdoriaHaving been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Daniele Rugani from Juventus, Napoli’s attention has now turned towards Roma’s Alessio Romagnoli.

The young centre back has only recently returned to the Giallorossi after spending last season on loan at Sampdoria where he emerged as one of Italy’s most promising young defenders and a possible future mainstay of the national side.

Sportitalia understands that new Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri had originally wanted to sign Rugani, his star pupil at Empoli, but Juventus are not willing to part with another young player considered to have a promising future. As a result, Napoli have now approached Roma about Romagnoli, although the media outlet notes that they are likely to face similar hostility from the capital outfit.

Romagnoli is from Anzio on the coast near Rome and came through the ranks of the Giallorossi’s youth academy.
