Palermo defender Souleymane Bamba looks set to join Leeds United on a permanent deal during the transfer window.

The 30-year-old Ivory Coast international spent the second half of last season on loan at Elland Road after making just one appearance for the Serie A side in six months.

Now, according to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Leeds have made contact with Palermo in a bid to secure the player on a permanent contract.

It is thought that Bamba has agreed to the move following a phone call with sporting director Nicola Salerno, and will sign a two-year contract.

Reading had also asked for information about the player’s availability, however no communication problems prevented the enquiry going any further due to Palermo’s sporting director Manuel Gerolin’s poor command of English.

Bamba played 19 matches for Leeds in the Championship last season.
