Lorenzo De Silvestri’s unfortunate long-term injury has forced Sampdoria to accelerate their efforts to sign Bari fullback Stefano Sabelli.

De Silvestri suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury whilst on duty with the Italian national team in their match against Croatia on Thursday night, and faces six to eight months out.

Sabelli, currently on duty with the Italian under 21’s as they try to claim the European Championships, has been a consistent performer for Bari ever since making his debut in 2012.

Gazzetta.it report that due to De Silvestri’s injury, Sampdoria have been forced to ramp up their search for a new right-back, and have pinpointed Sabelli as the perfect replacement.

Sampdoria believe an offer of around 2 million will be enough to convince Bari to part ways with Sabelli and could approach the Serie B outfit in the coming days.
