Argentina striker Carlos Tevez has admitted that scoring the winning penalty in the Albiceleste’s victory over Colombia on Friday was a bit of personal vengeance after being left out of the national team for a long period of time.

The Boca Juniors striker, who joined from Juventus earlier in the day, revealed that while he was happy to see his side move on to the semi-finals, he was pleased to get a bit of redemption after being left out of the Argentina national team for three years under Alejandro Sabella.

“This victory is for my teammates, not just me: this is football, it allows you to have revenge,” Tevez stated while speaking to reporters after Argentina’s 5-4 victory on penalties against Colombia.

“What has happened has happened: I am happy to be part of this group. We played well, a fantastic match and we knew that it would be difficult for Colombia.

“It is impossible to play in this team if they play like this, but I look to play my part from the bench, giving my all when I take the field.

“When the ball went into the back of the net I thought about my family, whom I always miss.”

Argentina will meet the winner of Brazil v Paraguay in the Copa America semi-finals on June 30.
