Denmark U21 coach Jess Thorup has admitted that his side came up against a better side in Germany and that his players wasted too many chances.

The Danes had several early chances to take the lead on Saturday night, however they were outclassed and fell to a heavy defeat and missed the opportunity to secure a semi-final spot at the same time, something Thorup acknowledged after the game.

“That was our first ‘match point’ and we’ve missed it,” Thorup said at his post-match press conference

“Now we have to get back on it and find some new confidence for the next game. We have to win the game and if we do that we’re through to the semi-finals.

“We met a better team today who had more quality, particularly in attack, their finishing was very good.

“We had our chances but we were not good enough in those situations and that’s why we lost to a better team.

“We were good on the ball but we were lacking the final pass; when they were in the same situations they were better and that’s why they won the game.”
