Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has revealed that he wishes to continue playing with the Red Devils despite rumours linking him with a move to Juventus this summer.

The 31-year-old, whose current deal with the Premier League side is set to expire in June 2016, has been expected to leave the Old Trafford outfit due to a rocky 2014-15 campaign with the club, with the Bianconeri apparently ready to make a serious bid for his services, though he insists that he only wants to help coach Louis van Gaal succeed as long as he is fit enough to play at his best.

Van Persie spoke to Telegraaf about his current situation at Manchester United and commented on his plans for the future, stating that he hopes to continue playing until he’s 40-years-old.

“I’m not worried about my situation,” said the Dutch international. “Manchester United is my future, as well as my family’s future.

“It’s very simple, I still have a year left on my contract and everything else being said is just speculation.

“I will not take part in this puppet theatre. In August I will be 32-years-old, but I still want to play for at least another eight years, until I’m 40.

“It’s possible that I’ll no longer be able to play at the highest level in a few years, but right now I still feel very fit and it’s important that I’m able to play in the first team.

“People talk about my injuries so much but this year I’ve only had one. I’ve seen many players quit too soon.

“Look at Paul Scholes, he had stopped playing for a bit but came back when he realised that he could still play at a high level.”
