Roma are closing in on Argentina international goalkeeper and free agent Sergio Romero, with the Giallorossi hoping to announce a deal in the coming days.

The Lupi are in the market for a new shot-stopper following the decline of current number one, 38-year-old Morgan De Sanctis.

The club have identified Romero, recently released by Sampdoria, as an ideal replacement and have moved a step closer to bringing him to the Stadio Olimpico.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini met with Romero’s agent Mino Raiola and proposed a two year contract which the club are confident will be accepted.

The Argentine number one was released by Sampdoria after four years at the Luigi Ferraris, falling out of favour and spending the 2013-14 season on loan at Monaco. The 28-year-old played a key role in the Albiceleste’s progress to the finals of both the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 Copa America.
