Lazio defender Dusan Basta has revealed that the capital city club’s main objective is to do well in the Champions League during the 2015-16 campaign.

The Biancocelesti managed to secure a third place finish in the Serie A last term, giving them a chance to earn a spot in Europe’s most prestigious club competition if they’re able to make it past the preliminary round, and the 30-year-old believes that Stefano Pioli’s men are strong enough to make it far in the tournament as long as they remain focused.

Basta spoke to Mediaset Premium about his confidence in Lazio’s ability to find success during the upcoming season and commented on the Stadio Olimpico outfit’s approaching Supercoppa Italiana meeting with Juventus on August 8.

“We have everything needed to do well, we are full of motivation,” said the Serbian international.

“The Supercoppa Italiana? Juventus can be beaten, no one is unbeatable, but Juve is the biggest team in this championship.

“We’ll try as hard as we can, just like we tried in the Coppa Italia.

“The Champions League preliminaries? This is our first objective. We gave our all last season to get ourselves in this position and we hope to make it far.

“I hope it goes better than it has in the past. We have the right team, so let’s see who we have to face.”
