Gianfranco Zola has given his first interview as new coach of Al-Arabi and admitted the club might try to sign Lionel Messi.
Zola took on the job in Qatar after being dismissed by Cagliari in March and the former Chelsea striker confessed he would love to coach the Argentina captain.
“If the club wants to buy Lionel Messi that would be my first request.” Zola told reporters at his first press conference as coach of Al-Arabi
“If we sign Messi I think I would be the happiest man in the world.
“But for me the real challenge of this job is to improve the quality of local players.
“This will be the key to winning titles in the long run, foreign imports can only take you so far.”
