alessio romagnoli sampdoriaFormer AC Milan centre-back Fulvio Collovati has criticised his former club for spending €30 million to take striker Carlos Bacca to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, believing that Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli would have been a shrewder investment.

The 58-year-old did suggest that the Rossoneri do need to strengthen the attack though, with his preferred choice Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and even believed they could challenge for the Serie A title this season.

“I would have spent the €30m on Romagnoli not on Bacca,” Collovati told Milan Channel.

“He is one of the few young and interesting players that they could guarantee a future on.

“I think it was the right investment of [Andrea] Bertolacci. Milan must go back to having young people as some years ago and there are economic opportunities there.

“The only player who I would take over 30 years old is Ibrahimovic, he changes the face of a team.

“Jose Mauri is another good buy. The fact that Milan has tried constantly [to sign Axel] Witsel means they believe they must improve this area.

“I think if they do not make an investment in Romagnoli will invest heavily in the midfield.

“I think that with a strong central defence and Ibrahimovic by August 31, Milan can compete for the Scudetto.”
