Fiorentina are preparing to make a move for Boca Juniors striker Jonathan Calleri to partner Giuseppe Rossi upfront for the upcoming season.

The 21-year-old has been attracting interest from a number of European clubs including league rivals Palermo, but it appears La Viola have become front-runners to secure his signature.

According to La Nazione, new Coach of the Florence based side Paulo Sousa, is prepared to part with a rather small fee, which is being touted at around €3 million.

The Argentinian has already showcased some of his ability, scoring eight times in 25 appearances thus far.

Fans of the Curva Fiesole could be witnessing their first transfer with Boca since 1991, when one Gabriel Batistuta joined their ranks.

The striker’s arrival would also help dispel any rumours that Roma’s Mattia Destro could be heading in the direction of Florence, but cements the notion that German forward Mario Gomez will be leaving the club imminently.
