Fiorentina midfielder Matias Fernandez has played down reports he is set to leave, amid interest from former club Colo Colo.
The 29-year-old Chilean international enjoyed arguably his finest season in an individual sense with Fiorentina last term, and then capped it off by winning the Copa America with his nation.
Recent reports suggested that he could return to his homeland this summer, and follow in the footsteps of his club-mate David Pizarro, who joined Santiago Wanderers this week.
“It was very nice to come and train here, this is my home. I’ve been here for many years and nothing has changed,” Fernandez told the Chilean media.
“Return to Colo Colo? I don’t know. I still have one year left on my contract with Fiorentina, then we’ll begin to understand what happens next.
“Pizarro [departure]? I’ll feel more alone but I wish him well. He’s a world class player and will contribute to the success of the Santiago Wanderers.”
