Fiorentina midfielder Matias Fernandez has played down reports he is set to leave, amid interest from former club Colo Colo.
The 29-year-old Chilean international enjoyed arguably his finest season in an individual sense with Fiorentina last term, and then capped it off by winning the Copa America with his nation.
Recent reports suggested that he could return to his homeland this summer, and follow in the footsteps of his club-mate David Pizarro, who joined Santiago Wanderers this week.
“It wasverynice to come and trainhere, thisis my home. I’ve been hereformanyyearsandnothing has changed,” Fernandez told the Chilean media.
“ReturntoColoColo? I don’t know.I still have one year left on my contractwith Fiorentina, thenwe’ll begin to understand what happens next.
“Pizarro [departure]? I’ll feelmore alonebutI wish him well. He’s a worldclass playerand will contributeto the successof theSantiagoWanderers.”
