Fiorentina are keen to offer Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli a way back to Serie A – after opening discussions with the Anfield club over a possible loan deal.

The Italy international left AC Milan to join the Merseyside club last summer but endured a difficult season with the Reds, as they missed out on Champions League football, with ‘SuperMario’ himself managing just one league goal in 16 appearances.

SportMediaset are reporting that talks have begun between the two clubs about an initial temporary move although Liverpool are believed to be keen on a permanent deal to offload the-24-year-old.

A possible swap deal is also being touted if the Viola opt to get rid of one of their own underperforming strikers, with the suggestion that Mario Gomez could be offered to Liverpool.

Balotelli’s future certainly seems to lie away from Brendan Rodgers’ side after he – along with fellow Azzurri attacker Fabio Borini – was left out of the club’s 30-man squad for their pre-season tour, which left for Thailand on Sunday.
