Fiorentina have announced the signing of Brazilian full-back Gilberto from Botafogo.
The 22-year-old has joined the Viola for a fee in the region of €11 million and will offer coach Paolo Sousa an alternative option on the right side of defence, a problem area for the Gigliati last season.
“ACF Fiorentina announces that it has acquired outright from Botafogo FR the transfer of the player Moraes Junior Gilberto,” a statement on the club’s official website read.
“Gilberto was born in Campinas (Brazil) on March 7, 1993, in the Brazilian Championship in progress, he has played nine games with the shirt of Botafogo and is already part of the Brazil Under-23 team.”
Fiorentina expect striker Mario Gomez to complete a move to Besiktas before the weekend as only a severance payment stands in the way of his move to the Turkish Super Lig club.
