Schalke’s out of contract defender Thilo Kehrer has rejected a deal to stay in Germany and will sign for Inter, claims the player’s agent.

The 18-year-old is highly rated in the Bundesliga but made it clear that his future will reside elsewhere, and after interest from the English Premier League it appears that the Nerazzurri have secured the defender.

Confirming the deal to La Gazzetta dello Sport, agent Nils Schmaler stated: “Thilo is absolutely a free agent.

“The terms of extension to a minor over three years do not apply, according to FIFA, and having not signed we informed Schalke in writing that he is free to leave.

“He has chosen Inter, there is a signed agreement.”

As Kehrer is under a certain age, Inter must pay a compensation fee that is to be decided before they can officially confirm the defender’s capture, but Schmaler is confident this will be settled comfortably.

“The Nerazzurri will act properly.

“We challenge the German club to say for what amount they wanted him to stay, only then will it be clear how ridiculous they were.”
