Lazio have received an unexpected compensatory fee, after West Ham forward Mauro Zarate lost his court battle with the club.

The Argentine had joined Lazio in 2009, but had his contract terminated in 2013 and since then has been involved in a series of court battles with the Biancocelesti.

However, a FIFA court of arbitration has ruled that Zarate was at fault when he tried to interrupt his deal with Lazio, which was supposed to run until 2014.

The Ex-Lazio man must now pay the Aquile €5.3 million compensation, plus €300,000 in interest.

Zarate has now 30 days to appeal the decision; however this does not suspend his sentence and he must still pay the Biancocelesti within 3o days.
