Former Major League Baseball star Mike Piazza has made a formal offer to buy Serie B side Como.

The 12-time MLB All-Star had previously been in talks to buy bankrupt Parma before withdrawing on June 22 and has since turned his attention towards the Lariani.

Sky Sport Italia reports that the 46-year-old has already evaluated the finances at the Lombardy-based club and since submitted a letter of intent to complete a takeover.

Piazza is now awaiting a response from Como president Pietro Porro, who announced his intention to stand down from his role after reaching Serie B for the first time 11 years.

Coach Gianluca Zambrotta guided the club to promotion from Lega Pro following a 2-0 aggregate play-off win over Bassano.

Simone Andrea Ganz, the son of former Inter and AC Milan striker Maurizio Ganz, scored the second goal in the first leg at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on June 7.
