Napoli winger Dries Mertens has reassured fans that he wants to stay with the Partenopei and that he is excited at the prospect of playing under new coach Maurizio Sarri.
The Belgium international has been linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo this summer, but he insists that he is committed to the club.
“I’m sure that everyone will see a great Napoli side this season,” the 28-year-old told Canale 21.
“We have a very strong attack and if we can work well in other parts of the pitch we will do great things.
“I want to prove to Sarri I can play in all the roles of his attacking system.
“Rumours of my departure from Napoli were absolutely not true, I want to stay here.
“I can not wait to play the first friendly.”
Mertens scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions for Napoli last season.
