Dries Mertens NapoliThe agent of Napoli forward Dries Mertens insists his client wants to stay at the club, amid interest from Liverpool and Inter.

The 28-year-old Belgian international enjoyed another productive season at the San Paolo, attracting the interest of a number of big sides around Europe.

Massimiliano Capparoni, Mertens’ agent, revealed to Radio CRC that he wants to work with new coach Maurizio Sarri and is raring to go for the new season.

Mertens is an important player that is coveted by several clubs, but Napoli isn’t currently¬†negotiating with anyone,” Capporoni said.

“I don’t think there’s any problems for his stay in Naples. It‘s clear that the market’s always changing, but the player does not want to leave a city that he holds close to his heart.

“Napoli could evaluate an important offer that comes along. There could be some interest from Inter, but for the moment there are no negotiations.

“Mertens would like to start the project with Sarri, then along the way we will have a better understanding of the technical situation the coach will adopt.”
