Napoli have held meetings with the representatives of striker Gonzalo Higuain over a potential contract renewal.
The Argentine had previously look destined to leave the Stadio San Paolo with numerous clubs circling, but in a surprising turn of events could be set to extend his contract with the Neapolitan giants.
Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis on Wednesday had positive meetings with Higuain’s representatives, his brother and father, report Sky Sport Italia.
The former Real Madrid frontman is still considered vital to the future plans of Napoli, even after Rafael Benitez left the club two years after bringing the player in.
In his two seasons in Italy, Higuain has racked up 35 Serie A goals, 18 of those coming in the last campaign where they underwhelmed by finishing in only a Europa League qualification spot.
