The saga surrounding the future of Inter’s Xherdan Shaqiri rumbles on, as the Swiss international found himself at the end of a stinging humiliation.

The 23-year-old arrived in the January transfer window from Bayern Munich, but has since failed to command a place in Roberto Mancini’s starting lineup.

After just six months, the new Inter coach would already be looking to offload the talented Swiss.

And Mancini made his feeling perfectly clear in their pre-season friendly against newly-promoted Carpi. The Nerazzurri coach did not even pick Shaqiri for the bench, instead leaving him out to watch from the stands, according to Gazzetta della Sport.

With new summer signings Geoffrey Kondogbia and Martin Montoya making the starting lineup and the bench, respectively, the message sent to Shaqiri being surplus to requirements has become ever clearer.

Inter won the game 4-2, with goals from Rodrigo Palacio, Mauro Icardi, Hernanes and Samuel Longo.

Shaqiri made 15 Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri in the latter half of the 2014-15 season, managing only one goal and two assists.
