Palermo are reportedly looking to purchase Arsenal forward Joel Campbell on a permanent basis in the coming days after a loan proposal was turned down.

The 23-year-old, whose current contract with the Gunners is set to expire in June 2016, has been steadily linked with a move away from the English club due to a lack of space in Arsene Wenger’s squad and it looks like the Rosanero are the team seen as the favourites to land him.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini would be willing to pay a fee of around €5 million in order to secure the Costa Rican international on a permanent basis, though Arsenal are apparently expecting at least twice as much.

Reports also suggest that the forward himself would prefer to leave the London based club in order to begin a new journey in the Serie A with Palermo, which could benefit the Sicilian side.

Campbell made just four Premier League appearances during the first half of the 2014-15 campaign with Arsenal before joining Villarreal on loan in January, where he scored one goal in his 16 Primera Division appearances.
